MY ROLE
Founder, branding, site design and creation
In the Stands was created by my wife and I in 2019. It's a travel resource for people visiting MLB ballparks and MLS Stadiums. The site offers  recommendations on places to stay and things to do.
Challenge
How do you turn an idea for a passion project about traveling to ballparks into something that people could actually use?
Solution
Starting with a blank canvas, I came up with the name, designed all the assets and created the site in Webflow. The site is tailored to fans who travel to MLB and MLS stadiums and might want a little help with recommendations on where to go and what to do.
Here's how i did it
Site creation
I was curious if the site was something I could create myself. I don't really know how to code, so after doing some research I found that Webflow seemed to have everything I needed. It has robust CMS capabilities and a fairly simple interface to create pages.

I sketched idea after idea in my notebook, and decided to just try to create the pages inside Webflow. I wanted a custom layout so I purposely did not use any templates, but I do use a couple of elements that came from the community.

I still have a lot of content I need to add to the site and this is a project that will never really be "done".

Design
Similar to the logo, I want the design of the website to feel open and clean. Classic is a keyword I try to think of when working on it. I want it to feel modern and contemporary, but something that won't feel dated when design trends shift.

So far I have been responsible for every single piece of content on the site.

What have I learned
The site has really turned into a passion project that started with just MLB ballparks, but no includes MLS stadiums too. Content creation is hard, but it's important to keep the site fresh.
